We've removed the UC Seal from Site Builder

Jun 25, 2019

When we launched the newest Site Builder designs earlier in 2019, we made available the UC Seal as a logo for a site.  In fact, we went so far as to make the UC Seal the default logo for new sites.  According to the UC brand guidelines, this was a mistake on our part.

From the University of California brand guidelines (http://brand.universityofcalifornia.edu/guidelines/the-uc-seal.html#!how-to-use-the-seal):

How to use the seal

PLEASE NOTE: The primary identifier of the university for marketing, public outreach and awareness-building is the wordmark, not the unofficial seal.

Exceptions include communication from the president's direct office, official financial documentation, legal documents, regental communications and other formal university functions. Because the unofficial seal is an important symbol for the university, it is critical that the integrity of the seal — and the rest of the brand system — remain intact.

 Oops!

Obviously, the solution to this problem would be to remove the UC Seal from Site Builder.  This is exactly what we did.

For example, before:

sb3-uc-seal-before

...and after:

sb3-uc-seal-after

Looks better to me!

There were 51 sites that were using the UC seal; those sites no longer show a logo.  Here's a full listing of affected sites:
