This is a quick post...a teaser really. But it's important that we start letting everyone know about this.
We have begun rolling Microsoft Exchange services out to the entire Division.
Now you may not be impressed by that, and that's okay. But I will tell you, this will be a big deal!
In order to get excited, you really need to know what Exchange is. Exchange is shared calendaring, improved email, an excellent web client for email, shared documents and instant messaging.
Calendaring: Shared calendaring is one of the most requested services that we have not been able to provide. Now we can. Your office can share calendars. Your workgroup. Your Strategic Initiave group, etc. etc. You will be able to share calendars with anyone using the service.
Better email/Web client: First, your mailbox size will grow from 40MB to 500MB. AND, you will have an excellent web interface (no more Geckomail!)- so you'll be able to work with your email from anywhere- even your portable devices. Especially your portable devices. Microsoft Exchange is the industry standard for advanced email. Every device supports it. You'll be thrilled with the difference!
I'll talk more about the shared documents and instant messaging later. But the question you may have on your mind is- when can I get Microsoft Exchange?
Soon. Very soon. We are working feverishly to convert the Division over, but it is a lot of work. Blaine Sullivan, James Bai, Damon DiPietro and Paul Wilson are moving as fast as they can, converting individual offices. In fact, as I type this they are in El Dorado County bringing them on-line. We have a lot of offices, and a lot of people. But once again, we're moving as fast as we can.
We're going to alternate between offices in the Davis area and distant offices. Our schedule will be based on availability and organizational changes. I can't tell you when we'll be in your office, but we'll get there soon.
The Exchange Train (new name!) is coming to a town near you. I will have a ton more information in the coming weeks. As always...let me know if you have any questions.
