What is a PDF file?

A PDF or Portable Document Format is a popular file format invented by Adobe, Inc, that has been widely used for exchanging and sharing documents since 1993. It has become the standard for document exchange and has been widely adopted by businesses, organizations, and individuals.

The Portable Document Format is compatible and readable with most operating systems including Windows, Mac OS, as well as Mobile and Tablet devices that use iOS or Android. Most browsers can open and display PDF files.

A PDF is a convenient way to add supplemental content to a web page, and can improve Google Search Results and page rankings.

A PDF file can contain text, images, charts and graphs, forms, hyperlinks, meta-data etc.

Adobe Inc. is a company that offers the FREE Acrobat application for reading PDF files, and the PAID Acrobat Pro for creation of PDF files.
