Allowed Use
The University of California has a full Allowable Use policy defined in Section III of the Electronic Communications Policy (ECP)
UC ANR-owned resources, such as computers or other electronic equipment purchased with ANR funds, are provided to support UC ANR's programs, research, teaching, public service, administrative functions, and to advance UC ANR's mission.
UC ANR electronic resources may not be used for:
- unlawful activities
- commercial purposes not under the auspices of the University
- personal financial gain (except as permitted under applicable academic personnel policies)
- personal use that is not in support of UC ANR's work and mission
- uses that violate University or campus policies or guidelines including policies and guidelines regarding intellectual property and sexual or other forms of harassment
UC ANR devices are provided to support ANR's mission and are not personal use devices. It is important to keep personal business separate from your ANR device.
Any UC ANR device is subject to a Freedom of Information Act request by any member of the public, without the need for a stated purpose. If you have any personal information on your work device, including logged conversations over applications such as Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, it could be subject to disclosure. Additionally, if you conduct business for UC ANR on a personal device, your personal device could also be subject to disclosure. Keeping your work and personal information separate is best to protect your privacy.
